NEW REGULATIONS FOR FIXED CO2 FIRE-EXTINGUISHING SYSTEMS
Modification of controls of fixed carbon dioxide fire-extinguishing systems for ships constructed before 1 October 1994.
The new requirements found in MSC.256 (84) at IMO MSC 84 affect CO2 control systems on vessels constructed prior to 1 July 2002 and retroactively to vessels constructed prior to 1 October 1994.
The new Regulation is in effect as of 1 January 2010 and determine that by the first scheduled dry-docking after the above date, fixed CO2 fire-extinguishing systems for the protection of machinery spaces and cargo pump-rooms, shall comply with the provisions of paragraph 2.2.2 of chapter 5 of Fire Safety Systems Code.
