NEW REGULATIONS FOR LIFEJACKETS
The new MSC.200(80) Regulations are in effect since 1 July 2010 and they determine that all lifejackets that are due to be replaced after that date must comply with these new regulations. Also all vessels that are built on or after this date must have the new Solas 2010 lifejackets on board. 
MSC.200(80) sets a few new requirements for all Solas  approved lifejackets as follows :
  • The new lifejacket self rights in an average of 2-3 seconds / as compared to the old regulation - self righting for 5 seconds /
  • Freeboard of the mouth - keeps mouth and nose higher from the waterline
  • Optimized survival time - the new lifejackets improve the position of the body and the face to the waterline while the person is in the water.
